John F. Barnes Interview, Part II: What Facilitates Myofascial Release

This is Part II of our 45-minute interview with John F. Barnes, founder of Myofascial Release. In this section, John discusses what facilitates Myofascial Release and how it is an art, distinct from regular massage.

Hear John explain about Western Medicine’s failure to recognize or address the importance of the fascia, and how forms of myofascial release have evolved over time to move beyond a “one-size fits all” model. “The art of myofascial release is learning to feel the restrictions,” says John. He notes that there are over seven billion people in the world and that means that there are over seven billion different fascial strain values. “Everybody is going to have a different pattern. So, the protocols that we learn as therapists don’t work. It has nothing to do with the person lying on the table.”

What’s mechanotransduction, piezoelectricity, or the fourth phase of water, and what do they have to do with myofascial release? Listen to part II of this free interview video, and find out!
